Permitted uses
- Learning how SHA-256 transforms text into a fixed-length digest.
- Checking your own test data and software integrations.
- Authorised security education using synthetic or deliberately published examples.
- Comparing known text with its expected SHA-256 value.
Do not submit
- Real passwords, recovery phrases, private keys, API keys or authentication tokens.
- Names, email addresses, health information, financial information or other personal data.
- Information obtained without permission or material intended to facilitate unauthorised access.
Not decryption
SHA-256 is designed to be one-way. Hashdesk does not reverse the algorithm. A lookup succeeds only when the exact original text has already been stored with the same calculated hash.
Reporting stored material
If an entry may contain personal, confidential or unsafe material, submit its SHA-256 value through the removal-request page. Do not paste the original sensitive text into the form.
